The Cattle
For more than seventy years, our family has ranched this part of Sonora.
Rancho La Carrera, along with neighboring family ranches, is part of a larger operation built over generations. This is working country, and it always has been.
The Herd
We started with Brangus and spent decades building the herd. Along the way, our family showed at state competitions and continued improving the genetics.
More recently, we introduced Angus and Balancer bulls to improve structure and meat quality while keeping the hardiness and adaptability that matter on the range.
The goal is simple: raise animals that do well here and produce good calves.
Raised on the Range
The herd grazes native grasses and natural forage across the mountains and desert of the Sierra Madre.
The terrain is rugged, and conditions change throughout the year. Animals have to travel, adapt, and make the most of what the land provides.
That has always shaped the kind of herd we raise.
Built for This Country
Our cows are expected to raise good calves, travel well, and handle the range without much help.
The foundation is built on hardiness and maternal ability, while the Angus genetics add consistency and meat quality.
The result is a sound, productive herd that fits the country.
From Ranch to Market
Calves from Rancho La Carrera enter markets in both Mexico and the United States.
Some continue north, while others remain in Mexico to be finished and processed for the domestic market.
From the ranch forward, they remain traceable through the production process.
Why a Working Ranch
Ranching keeps us on the land year-round.
We maintain water, roads, and pasture throughout the year. That work also benefits the wildlife that lives across the ranch.
And because hunting is not what supports the operation, we can be selective about what we take.
We harvest only a limited number of mature animals and let the rest grow old in the country where they belong.
